HARLEQUIN CLUB CREST CLUB
We take this opportunity of congratulating the Jacaranda Festival Committee in organizing this Festival of Arts in Pretoria. We at the Harlequin Club are proud and honoured that our facilities are at the heart of the Festival. We look forward to a long and happy association.
The history of Pretoria Harlequins dates Club back to 1903. A year previously the civil servants who were transferred up from the Cape, other parts of South Africa and also from overseas, played rugby under the title of the Civil Service Club. At the end of the season they decided to contact London Harlequins for permission to use the Club name and colours. This was agreed to and one hundred and ten years ago our club came into being. The Club gained early support from Hockey and Cricket enthusiasts who established sporting sections. Later other sports came on board.
Our association with London Harlequins allows us a link to similar clubs in Melbourne, Australia, Hamilton in New Zealand, Dallas in America and Nairobi in Kenya.
This year, our Club and the sporting sections participate in the sports of Rugby, Cricket, Bowls, Hockey, Squash and Marathon running. In all, there are over thirty teams which turn out in Club colours throughout the year, at a competitive League level. In addition we host the social corporate touch rugby league in Pretoria
Our Caterers provide first class service and food for a variety of functions
