CHOC Childhood Cancer Foundation
Our Vision
CHOC Childhood Cancer Foundation contributes to the wellbeing of children with cancer and related life-threatening blood disorders, and their families.
Our Objectives
Childhood cancer and related life-threatening blood disorders place enormous strains upon the family and can cause financial hardship. Travelling from home to attend these clinics for treatment add another dimensions of practical and emotional difficulty to an already overwhelming situation.
We aim to alleviate as much distress as possible through various care programmes. The assistance for families aims to:
- Provide a wide range of support for children and young people with cancer, and their families
- Provide information, and items of immediate practical use, to all newly diagnosed families.
- Organise support groups to assist families to cope with the stress that the diagnosis brings
- Provide accommodation close to the treatment centres for families from out-of-town, and assistance with transport costs where necessary.
To ensure good specialist treatment facilities, we aim to:
- Work in close liaison with the medical staff to ensure that the medical and physical facilities in the centres are of a high standard, and that the units provide a warm, child friendly environment.
- Support health professionals working in the field of Paediatric Oncology to maintain and improve their levels of expertise in the specialised field.
- Advocate for those whose lives are affected by childhood cancer, particularly to ensure equity of treatment for all children.
- Support research into studies investigating the causes and treatment of childhood cancer.
CHOC assists in the circulation of the awareness of the “Warning Signs” so that early diagnoses can be made and save precious lives.
Our Involvement with NJAF
The NJAF is a good platform to bring the general public face to face with “Keeping more than hope alive”. The word cancer scares people and they walk circles around, avoiding, believing this will keeping this dreaded decease away. There is no parent that ever wants to even imagine their child in this situation.
CHOC is about “Keeping more than hope alive” and sending a message that the more we are educated on the subject the greater the hope of survival is for our precious children.
Art festivals are about having fun, ideas, viewpoints, informing, and a platform to reach out to the general public. CHOC has a message; “Keeping more than hope alive” children live in the moment, there is always hope.
CHOC wants to create a greater sense of awareness, as most people believe that children don’t get cancer. This can be done in a fun informative way.

The Down Syndrome Association of Pretoria would like to Welcome everyone.
The Down Syndrome Association is proud to be part of The Standard Bank Jacaranda National Arts Festival, and to be one of their beneficiaries. We provide the following services in the Pretoria area:
Although we focus on individuals with Down Syndrome, we also provide services to all
intellectually impaired individuals. Our main goal is to make every individual as independent as possible. To live semi-independently this young person needs to be able to work in the open labour market. In order for him/her to achieve this, he/she needs to receive all intervention programmes that will facilitate successful inclusion into society. The Down Syndrome Association of Pretoria is dedicated to improve the quality of life of all infants, children and adults with Down syndrome, by promoting the idea of inclusion and that they have the right to live with independence, dignity and security as valued adults and to contribute to the economic growth of their communities.
